Toni Bernay, PhD

Toni Bernay PhD is president and co-founder, with her husband Saar Porrath MD, of the Porrath Foundation for Cancer Patient Advocacy. She is co-author with Dr. Porrath of the forthcoming book When It’s Cancer-10 Essential Steps To Take After The Diagnosis, to be published by Rodale Press in September, 2005. She is a clinical psychologist, executive coach, and cancer patient advocate. In addition to her clinical practice, Dr. Bernay is a principal at The Leadership Equation Institute, a consulting firm that specializes in, executive coaching, leadership and personal development for senior and top management.

A nationally known author, lecturer, and seminar leader, Dr. Bernay presents her work to executives and entrepreneurs across the country. She is the co-author of Women in Power - The Secrets of Leadership and has been featured in numerous articles on leadership, executive coaching and women at the top. She has appeared frequently on local and national television and radio shows on CNN, Lifetime, major network news programs and NPR’s All Things Considered. She is featured in major newspapers such as The Los Angeles Times and magazines such as Training & Development, Mademoiselle, and Fortune.

Dr. Bernay is the co-founder and past president of Women in Psychology for Legislative Action. She has served on the Board of Trustees of Alliant University, the Board of Directors of the American Psychological Association, The Los Angeles County Psychological Association, Reprise, Broadway’s Best!, Women’s Political Committee and on the Advisory Board of Linkages Leadership Institute.

Dr. Bernay has served as Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychology at UCLA, visiting faculty and lecturer at both the University of Southern California’s Marshall School of Business Administration and School of Cinema and Television. Dr. Bernay also served as an organizational consultant for the Woman’s Breast Center Group, and was faculty at The Aspen Institute.

Dr. Bernay received her PhD in psychoanalysis from the Southern California Psychoanalytic Institute and her PhD in clinical psychology at the California School of Professional Psychology. She completed her postdoctoral fellowship at the Wright Institute Clinic and received an MSW in Social Work at the University of Southern California. Dr. Bernay is a graduate of Hunter College with a BA in psychology.
